Journal #28

Nowadays, clothes are not only for covering people's body, but also decorating people's appearance. Clothes can tell others about your personality and taste even emotion. When we see some people at the first time, we have the first impression and judgment from them. And, the judgment usually comes from clothes which he or she wears. When I take a walk in campus, I can see a lot of different kinds of clothe style. Although I don’t know them, I already have some judgment from their clothes.

Usually, we have some stereotype about clothes. For example, when we see some body who wear colorful clothes, we think they must be outgoing and easily getting along. So, we think that making friend with these kinds of people is easy and won’t be refused. Furthermore, people who wear colorful clothes usually look like more confident then other clothe style.

Sometimes, we can see people who wear the same style clothes, and then we can distinguish that they belong to which group or come from which country. For example, when we see people who wear loose clothes and paint, or lopsided cap, we can know they are really interested in hip pop culture and belong to hip pop group. On the other hand, if you see people who wear kimono, you can be sure that they come form Japan. Therefore, you can get much information form clothes.

Obviously, clothes can tell a lot of information about people. Clothes also can reflect people’s thinking and personality. Next time, when you meet some body, you can just use clothes to judge them, and then you can prove your opinion.

Mushrooms Chicken Soup



Mushrooms chicken soup is one of my favorite soup. In Taiwan, we usually eat this soup to improve our immunity and warm our body in winter. If somebody gets sick, family usually make this soup for the patient to supply the nutrition which lose during sick. This soup is very simple and you don't need to take a lot of time to cook. Mushrooms chicken soup is healthy and delicious.

Recipe:
1. some dry mushrooms
2. chicken
3. salt
4. a few piece of ginger

Method:
1. put dry mushrooms in cool water to be soft.
2. Put chicken in hot water until the chicken is done.
3. Put mushrooms, chicken, ginger, and water in the pot and cook 40 to 60 minutes by mid fire.

When I was the freshman at university, I was living in dormitory. One day my senior told me a so scare story which was happened in the opposite room of mine. It was a saturday night and heavy raining day. My senior whose name is John stayed in his room alone, because all his roommates went home. However, one of his roommate whose name is David suddenly came back. Whole his body was wet and on his face was a little bit blooding. David told my senior that he just was collided by a motocycle, but he is all right. And he just came back to take some books. After taking some books, and then David said good bye to my senior and went home. Tomorrow, my senior heared that David was dead on the yesterday because of motocycle accidnet. However, there was no any books at the accident place. And my senior checked Davis's bookshelf. The book was still on there.!! After that, no body live that room and is blocked forever~

"Watching TV is not a waste of time"

We are living in a rush society. Everyday, people are busy their job, study, and life. We don't have enough time to relax or release stress. One of the best way to relax is watching TV. Although some people say watching TV is a waste of time, when you feel exhausted, no-brained activity is best way to make you to relax. Therefore, watching TV is a good way to make your brain to take a rest.


First, there are a lot of channels which you can choose. You don't need to worry about watching will waste your time. you can watch educational channels which are like Discovery and National Geography. These kinds of programs can improve your knowledge and expand your interest to different fields. And also, you can watch News. I think watching News is very important everyday, because you can know what happen in the world and get the latest imformation on TV. Therefore, watching TV is helpful to people.

Second, when you watch TV with your family, you can have the same topic to discuss with your family. It is a good way to improve relationship of family. And it's maybe the only time that you can get together with your family, because everybody is so busy to their business. For example, I like to watch TV with my family. At that time, we can discuss the program, and talk about our interesting thing in taht day.

In conclusion, according to those reasons, watching TV is not a waste of time. You can get knowledge and imformaiton from TV. And also you can have chance to get together with your family.

Halloween means nothing to my culture. But in Taiwan, we have one month to respect the ghost during July to August. And we call that "the door of ghost is opened" in this period. In this month, all of ghost come to human's world and some temples are colsed. Therefore, we will put some food and alcohol on the table. It means we respect them and make them feel full. Furthermore, in this period, parents always warn their children don't go to beach to swim or go to trip. Because the ghost woud like to catch some people. I think in every country people have different ways to express their feeling to ghost. Despite believing or not, we should respect different culture.

If I could visit any place in the World,I would like to go to North pole. Because in North pole the geography, biology and weather are total different from our living enviroment. First, I wanna see glacier. Because I always see the glacier which made many amazing geography of earth on TV. Glaciers must have great power and be gorgeous. And also I want to experience to stand, run, and lie on the glaciers. I think it's will be funny. Second, there are some special animal in North pole like penguin, polar bear...Although I can see them in zoo, seeing them in North pole must be shaked to me and I want to know how they can live in this kind of cruel enviroment. Final, the weather in North pole must be pretty cold. I want to experience the weather which is coldest in the world. Furthermore, I heared that I can see the galaxy on the sky in the North pole. I really want to see this amazing view. This is why if I could visit any place in the world, I would like to go to North pole.

Recently, I am thinking about the language problem of international students. I have some friends who come from different countries. Sometimes, we get together to eat meal or drink, but some friends like to talk in their native language. I thnk it's a kind of impolite, because others can't understand what you are talking about. And also I don't like to say "ha~please speak English. I think we should know to respec other friends who come from different countries. I know to speak native language is comfortable and can express your meaning correctly. But our goal is learning English when we come to America. Sometimes I really got angry about this. Am I too narrow mind?

Actually, I don't know any child in America. Sometimes, I can see the children and their parent in the restaurant or on the street. As I saw, their parents give them much freedom. For example, they can usually go outside to play with their friends. Comparing to me, when I was child, my parents didn't like me to go to outside to play with my friends. On the other hand, in America, their attitudes toward their elders or others in authority are like friends. They can call their elders' name and usually are not shy to ask question. In my opinion, in America theie parents want to train their childern to be independent. On the contray, in Taiwan, their childern are more dependent on their parents.

Yangming mountain is located in north Taiwan. It is composed by several volcano. Therefore, the water in this mountain include sulfur. So many people like to go to Yangming mountain to enjoy SPA. Furthermore, this mountain is nearby Taipei, so you can see the night view of Taipei city. In the spring, there is flower festival. In the flower festival, the most popular place is a big clock which is decorated by flowers. Another hand, there is grasslands in the mountain. On the weekend, people go hiking and have a picnic on the grasslands.

This weaken, I went to Cabazon outlet mall to buy winter clothes. Because I didn't bring any winter clothes from Taiwanand the weather is getting colder. The outlet mall is so big and a lot of people was shopping. Some people bought a lot of thing, it is like the product is free. However, I just bought a jacket, because I want to save money for trip. My friends almost lost control, one of my friend bought 12 clothes and another one spent $200. When we were in the outlet mall, weathe always changed. Sunshine and rain were alternate. Therefore, some of my friends got a clod and fever. Recently, the weather was so crazy~~

The season I prefer is winter. Because in winter, I feel everything is beautiflul and mild. Because when temperature is cold, the sunshine will make me warm. The most important reason is that I don't need to bear sunburn and sweat. On the other hand, in winter, I expect Christmas and new year. Although Christmas is not Asian holiday, we also exchange gift and get togegher with family or friends. In spite of the weather is cold, family and friends make me happy and warm. Moreover, I think hugging girlfriend in winter is most blissful.

My junior high school teacher has influenced me. At that time, he was so young, so he always wore polo shirt and jean. His style made him just as our friend but teacher. Everyday, he had passion for studying and playing. In the class, he was strict to supervise our studying and taught us what is correct and discorrect. He always held his hands and grabed a stick behind his back to look around our studying. When he was taughting, his face was so serious, and his voice was very loud. Therefore, every student affeared of him. Another hand, after class, he often leaded us to play basketball, make BBQ, or have picnic. When he was playing with us, he was not teacher anymore. He was crazy to play with us. However, He always asked me to continue improving my studying strictly. I was often hit by him, just because my grade can't satisfy him. Although I thought that he annoyed me so much, I still respected him. From him, I knew that when I should study, I must focus on my study, and when I play, I will be crazy to enjoy. This is way my junior high school has influenced me so much.

Recently, I start to learn to cook, because I want to save my money. You know~Eating in restaurant is very expensive to me! So, I and my housemate go to supermarket to buy some material. However, I am lazy and a rookie. I just want to make simple and healthy meal. Therefore, I just buy some ham, eggs, and some vegetables to make fired rice and vegatable. Although it's very simple, I am so happy to cook by myself. After this cooking, I am going to learn how to cook more.

At that time, I was at home with my family. When I saw this tragedy news, I couldn't believe my eyes. I tought it was a movie or simulated by computer. How came the terrorists were cruel to kill a lot of people. The passengers on the airplanes and peeple who were workiing in the twin towels didn't make any mistakse, but they suffered serious pain. In the next few days, the news and image were repeated on the TV. Although it was not happened in my country, I felt said with the people who died in this accident and angry with the terrorists. And This tragedy will be remembered by all people who live in the world.

The passing of a person who was important to me is my grandmother. Because when I was a child, my grandmother lived with my family and always took care me. When I was elementary school student, my grandmother took me to school and picked me up to go home everyday. The most impressive memory was that she always asked me that are you hungry or are you tired. At that time, I was botherd by her worrying, but I realized that she really cared about me. Two years ago, she died and left us forever. However, I always remember and miss her.

In my opinion, 30 is proper age to get marry. Because when people are 30, their mental is mature and know what they should do in their future life. On the other hand, man has their career and save enough money to get marry at 30 years old. Sometimes, people get married impulsively, but they don't know each other deeply yet, and it's easy to divorce. People also need time to look for their husband or wife and know each other deeply. Above those reasons, 30 is proper age to get marry.

Since I came to America, the biggest difference is that I must buy every thing and clean my home by myself. When I was in Taiwan, I didn't need to do that. Now, I can know that my mother is hard to keep everything. When I went to supermarket to buy living stuff, I should compare the price and calculate my budget. And every week, I msut clean my living room and bathroom. For me, I never do that in Taiwan, so I think that it is biggest change since I came to United States.

A Narrative (Journal #4)

On August 6, I and my friends went to Las Vegas and Grand Canyon. The weather in Las Vegas was very craze. I was almost melted at that time. And I experienced my first gambling. Of couse, I lost money, but I really had fun in casino. There were many luxury hotels in Los Vegas. Unfortunately we didn't have enough money to live in Bellagio or Wynn. We just can afford the cheapest one. After Las Vegas, We went to Grand Canyon. On the way of Vegas to Grand Canyon, the rode was very difficult to drive and there was a lot of grit. So my driving speed was just about 10 miles. At that time, I thought my car will be broken. However, when we arrived Grand Canyon, it was worthy. The view of Grand Canyon was gorgeous. When I stood on the sky walk, I can see the bottom of cliff. Although this trip was very tired and expensive, I really enjoyed and had fun.

This holidays, I help my friend to move to LA. Moving make me to feel bothersome. When we move to a new place, we must pack luggage and buy a lot of things. I don't like moving. By the way, LA is dirty and crowded. Every time, when I went to LA, there were a lot of traffic. I think living in Fullerton is better then in LA. This monday, I want to see the baseball game. Of course, Angels won the game. Because Angels took a lead so much, I felt bored. But fortunately, firework is gorgeous and I had fun.

"we don't like writing diaries because we don't think our life is important enough." I feel my life is normal and don't have special thing to write diaries. When I was a university student, I tried to write diaries. But I could not continue. I think that I had a lot of things can be wrote down like trip or emotion at that time. Actually, I think I can remember all things, but I can't. When time goes by, our memories are gradually vague. Laze is major reason to make us don't like writing diaries. Sometimes, I regret that why didn't I write diaries. Maybe I will change my habit and write diaries to remember my life.

When I was a elementary and junior high school strdent, every week I must write some essays. But the topics were always boring and serious. The teachers taught everyone to use the same ways to write essays and we must remember a lot of sentences which are wrote or said by some famous people. For me, writing is just for exams. When I was writting, I didn't feel some interesting or funny. Therefore, I don't like writing. When I was a university student, I didn't need to write essays. Because my major was Electronic engineering, we didn't have to write many essays and actually I didn't like writing. So English writing is difficult for me. When I take Toefl test, I don't have enough time to write an essay. And even I have time, writing my idea in English sometimes is difficult.

But journal is more interesting than formal essay. I can share my life with my friends and release my emotion on internet. Although I don't like writing, writing journal is the way to study English.

What are the advantages of studying English in America?

If you have ever traveled, you know that English is everywhere. You can see English in textbooks, advertisements, popular songs, restaurants, and businesses. Studying English is important. However, if you want to improve your English, studying English in America is greatly helpful. There are three advantages that will help you studying. This includes working with native speaking teachers, international students, and practicing speaking in a pure English environment.
First, you can learn English with native teachers in America. This way, you can learn correct English, because their English knowledge is accurate. You can understand that how to use the correct words or idioms in right situation. And your teachers also can teach you formal English and oral English. In my country, the English teachers usually do not know the oral English well. In addition, the students can learn correct pronunciation form native teacher in America. Even if your English is good, you usually have an accent. But if you study English in America, you can listen and imitate correct pronunciation form your teachers. Furthermore, the native teachers have different skills to teach you English. For example, most teachers in America use group discussion to teach English. This way is not usual in Asia. But it is a good way to learn English. You will have more chances to practice English in the class. When you study English in America, you can have fun in the class, because the native teachers sometimes play games or watch movies to teach English in class. It is interesting and effective to study English. However, the English classes are always serious and just for examination in my country. Moreover, you can learn English culture from native teacher. It’s easier and more interesting to learn a foreign language in that country. When you learn the new traditions and customs, you will have much more motivation to study. Therefore, native teachers can help you to improve your English.
Second, if you study English in America, you will meet a lot of international students. It’s the best opportunity to learn English, because you must use English to communicate to your friends and classmates. It forces you to speak English everyday. For instance, in the class, you must discuss with your classmates and in daily life, you might chat with your friends in English. However, if you learn English in you country, you never have chances to talk to your classmates or friends in English. On the other hand, when you study English with international students, you will have competition with each other. Under the peer pressure, you must study hard. Especially, since your classmates come from different countries, everyone has pride in their countries. Furthermore, you and your classmates have same goal. You will not be shy to talk to your classmates or friends. Sometimes, you will be shy to speak English in your country. The goal of international students is studying English. When you and your classmates have the same goal, you will help each other to reach your goal. Not only you can improve your English, but also you can make good friends. Therefore, learning with international students can help you to improve English.
Third, you can live in a pure English environment to study English in America. You have a lot of opportunities to study English. For example, when you go to a restaurant, you will see the menu. And you must know the vocabulary. If you want to order your meal, you must talk to the waiters. In your daily life, you have a lot of opportunities to learn and practice your English in America. In addition, you will get a lot of English information in America. You can see English in newspapers, TV, and magazines. Newspapers and magazines can improve your reading, grammar, and vocabulary. Watching TV or movies can help your listening. Living in this environment, you can learn English in your daily life. Moreover, you will get instant feedback if you study English in America. For instance, when you speak English to your friends or classmates in your country, they might don’t know that your English is incorrect. But in America, you can get instant feedback to direct your English. And when you use incorrect English, someone might ridicule your English. Maybe you will feel embarrassed but you will remember your mistake forever. Therefore, living in English environment can improve your English.
In conclusion, there are a lot of benefits of studying English in America. The benefits include working with native speaking teacher, international students, and practicing speaking in a pure English environment. Now, English is a global language. Everyone will see or use English in everyday. If you want to improve your English, you should study English in America.

Write about your plans for the rest of the summer.

My friend is going to visit me from Chicago. And we are going to Las Vegas with Jae and other friends on next Monday to Wednesday. I plan to wast a little bit money in casino. Jae taught me to play poker game, so I want to try and enjoy in casino. And we plan to see the show in Las Vegas. I always see the beautiful buildings and night view in the TV or movies, so I am so excited to go to Las Vegas. Maybe after going to Vegas, I'll go to grand canyon with my friend. The new facility is skywalk ,and I can see grand canyon under my foot. The rest of the summer will be exciting.

Write about your experience at the Angel game

Last Sunday, I went to see the Angles VS. Tigers with classmates and Jimmy. It's my first time to go to baseball field to see the baseball game. I were so excited, and I expected the game whole weak. The baseball field is very big. I never saw this kind of baseball game in Taiwan. Althought our price of tickets is cheapest, I can see the player clearly. On the other hand, the points of Angles to Tigers are 12-4. Angles led so many points, so the game was a little bit boring. But I were glad that Angles won this game. I enjoyed the game and we brought the luck to Angles to win this game. I expect to see baseball game next time.

The movis is about the Greek culture. The Greek always think that Greek should get married with Greek. However, this Greek woman runs into a non Greek man and they fall in love soon. At first, the father doesn't like the non Greek man. But the man loves the woman, and try to learn her culture. Although they have different culture, they love one another and want to get married. The big Greek family has good relationship, so the non Greek man try to win confidence from her family. Finally, they have a comedic ending. In conclusion, culture might is a big problem, but if people really want to overcome, it's not a problem.

There are 3 kinds of different Greek words for love eros, philia, and agape. First, eros is the strong love but doesn't have to be sexual. The love can be dating relationship as well as marriage. Second, philia is a kind of love of friendship. It's generally used for love between family, between friends, a desire or enjoyment of an activity. Third, the agape means "I love". The apape usually is a felling for gook meal, one's children, and the fellings for a spouse.

Corona Del Mar beach is a wonderful place for many reasons. The beach is so big. We can have B.B.Q, swimming, playing volleyball, flisbee, soccer and so on. It was funny when everyone was threw into ocean. I think everyone swallowed a little of water which was very cold and salty. I, Jimmy and many classmates played flisbee game. It's rules like the soccer game. I never played this game. It was interesting and exciting. Of course, my team won this game, because I had good teammates and Jimmy always can pass the flisbee accurately. I love the sunset in Corona Del Mar, because the view is gorgeous and like a post card. Therefore, I took a lot of pictures with my friends and had fun in Corona Del Mar beach.

My hero is Kobe Bryant because he is the best player in NBA now. There are several reasons to prove. First, his skill of score is amazing. There are always two or three defenders to want to stop him. But he uses fade away, slum dunk or assist to get points. He can use amazing skill to avoid defenders and get points. In the 2006-2007 seasons, he got over 50 points in consecutive 5 games and ever got 81 points in one game. If he wants to get points, nobody can stop him. Second, he always is the first man to practice shooting and running everyday. Although he is the best player in NBA, he tries to improve himself best and best. Another I admire him because he always strongly wants to win every game, and never give up. I think that I should learn this spirit on my studying. In conclusion, there are many good players in NBA, but he has great ambition to win every game. He always can create surprise to audiences in Stales Center.

I think global warming is a serious threat to our envirioment. There are seveal reasons to suppot my opinion. The global surface temperatures are likely to increase by 1.1 to 6.4 °C (2.0 to 11.5 °F) between 1990 and 2100. And the most serious effect is that more polar ice will be melted. First,some islands or cities will be sinking. There are less land to live for people. Moreover, the animals which live in polar will be extinct. Second, because the global warming will cause the temperature of sea rising, the typhoon will be more frequent. It means a lot of disasters will happen and cause big threat for people. Third, global warming will cause deficiency of water, because the rate of evaporation will great increase. However, water is the most important souce to cultivate, produce and live. Therefore, it will bring big catastrophes to humanity. In conclusion, global warming is a big problem to people. We should take care and protect our globe.

Last two weeks ago, I bought a bicycle in Target. This is a cheap bicycle. Although my bicycle can not change rate of speed and the size is small, I like my bicycle, because I do not have to walk to school every day. Unfortunately, my bicycle has broken last week. When I rode it, it can not forward. So I asked Target to fix my bicycle. But they told me that I must leave my bike in Target until Friday. Therefore, I walked to school whole week. And then, when I went to Target to take my bike last Friday, they did not solve my bike’s problem. I was very angry and ask them to refund. But they reject me and tell me that they need another week to fix my bike. I also inquire the bike company why they do not fix my bike. They just said that you can leave your bike in Target and they will ask their stuff to fix my bike. I am so angry, because they both always they do not know and they can not control this situation. They are not efficient and west my time. So, I must continue to wait my bike and walk to school whole week again.

What is your favorite blockbuster? Why? What types of movies do you normally enjoy watching?

My favorite blockbuster is The Matrix.
Because this movie creates many new ideas, like slow motion to avoid bullet, and has amazing computer effect.
However, the movie also provides me something to think.
Maybe in some day, people will be controled by computer.
When you choose to live in computer, you can't see the true world.
I even think that if are we living in the computer now.
Human must to think about how much destroy will be bringed from new technology.
Another, I like to see the fantastic movie.
Because those kind of movies will make me to image the future and entertain me.

How was your experience at Knott's Berry Farm?

I think Knott's Berry Farm is ok~
Because I had gone to the same kind of amusement parks several times in Taiwan.
I think these amusement parks are almost the same.
But there are many interesting facilities, like Supreme Scream, and Boomerang~~
When the Supreme Scream sudden fell, I even can't make any voice from my throat.
It's fun to play with my friends and laugh together.
Next time I want to go to DisneyLand of CA, I think it will be more interesting.
